Collaborative Performances

Throughout our 2025-6 season, we are performing with amateur choirs across the UK in a collaborative programme based around two works for two choirs: Footsteps by Owain Park, and Everyone Sang by Roderick Williams. Pictured is our performance with the Chapter House Choir & Youth Choir for York Concerts, and we'll also be collaborating with Swansea Bach Choir and Reading Festival Chorus.

In these projects, we aim to explore how we listen to each other when performing, making space for each other's musical lines, supporting where needed and giving musical space when not. We want to share these nuanced performance skills with amateur singers whilst sharing the stage, allowing all the performers to learn from each other.

Partnership with Repton School, Derbyshire

Over the course of 2025-6, Jervaulx Singers will be working with the students of Repton School in a series of events and performances aimed to grow the students' insight in the subtleties of stagecraft, developing their skills and enabling them to better engage an audience in solo and ensemble music-making.

Choral workshops

Our musical director Charlie Gower-Smith will work with the School Chapel Choir, directing a Sunday Service at the school chapel (pictured), ahead of combining forces with the Chapter House Youth Choir for a service of Evensong at York Minster. This builds towards a joint concert for Jervaulx Singers and the Choirs of Repton School in Autumn 2026. â€‹â€‹â€‹

Workshops for Schools

Since its founding, Jervaulx Singers has regularly invited the students of Sharow C of E Primary School into our rehearsals to share our music-making. In these sessions we also got the whole school singing, playing vocal games and learning new rounds.

In 2025 as part of our performance for the Swaledale Festival, we visited Settlebeck School in Cumbria. All the school's music students came together for a workshop in which we sang rounds, performed some choral music and song for them, and answered their questions about our various paths into the music industry.

Song workshops

Solo song forms a consistent part of our concert programming and is something that our performers are all widely experienced in.

Members of Jervaulx Singers will be going into schools to work with student pianist and singer duos on solo song repertoire. We will explore with the singers how to evoke the meaning of the text and how to communicate this with an audience. Meanwhile we will work with pianists on how to actively support the singer whilst discovering all the evocations of the text in the piano accompaniment of a song. Currently we have workshops planned at Repton School in Derbyshire, and Queen Mary's School Topcliffe in North Yorkshire.
